Advantages of HDPE Pipe for Water & Sewer

Resistant, Reliable, and Scalable

greadient line
HDPE pipes are resistant to corrosion, heat, pressure, and slow crack growth (SCG)—both inside and out. The result is a durable product that exceeds the lifespan and possible applications of other, more expensive pipe materials.

Reduced Transportation Costs

greadient line

The lightweight design of HDPE pipe means lower weight during transportation and installation. For remote projects, this means superior flexibility for materials delivery and lower costs over your project timeline.

Trenchless Installation & Flexibility

greadient line

HDPE pipe is ideal for challenging terrains, such as sensitive ecosystems and urban areas. The flexible design simplifies installation, regardless of your project location or environmental challenges.

Water & Sewer FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

HDPE is durable, flexible, and resistant to corrosion, tuberculation, and chemical attack—issues that commonly affect metal or concrete pipes. Its fused joints create a leak-free system, reducing water loss and infiltration/exfiltration in sewer applications, while also lowering long-term maintenance costs.

The most common methods are butt fusion, electrofusion, and mechanical couplings. Fusion creates a continuous, leak-free system where the joints are as strong as the pipe itself, making HDPE ideal for pressurized water lines and gravity sewer mains.

HDPE pressure pipes for potable water are usually manufactured to AWWA C906 or ASTM F714 standards, and they must meet NSF/ANSI 61 certification for drinking water safety. Sewer HDPE pipe often follows ASTM F714 or ASTM D3035, depending on application and installation method.

HDPE is lighter and easier to handle, has excellent impact and seismic resistance, and offers superior flexibility—allowing it to withstand ground movement and freeze-thaw cycles better than rigid materials. Unlike ductile iron or concrete, HDPE does not corrode, and unlike PVC, it has greater ductility and resistance to slow crack growth, extending system lifespan.
